Future-proof e‑commerce for NordicaGolf with a focus on the product configurator

NordicaGolf, a leading player in golf equipment since 2005, has always had a niche in custom-fit golf clubs. Their journey began with a self-built website and developed into using Magento to manage the growing e‑commerce. Despite previous upgrades, including switching to Magento 2 and collaborating with several other suppliers, the company felt that performance and user experience still did not reach the desired level.

After hearing positive reviews about Webbhuset and their headless solutions, NordicaGolf chose to move to a composable commerce architecture. The goal was to build on the Magento base but create a solution that could be future-proofed and allow for smoother management of their extensive product range.

The product configurator is the core of NordicaGolf's new e‑commerce

Webbhuset's work with NordicaGolf resulted in a future-proof headless solution where Magento functions as the backend, while Fusion Storefront was implemented in the frontend. This architecture forms the foundation for a composable commerce solution that enables a scalable solution where systems and integrations can easily be replaced depending on NordicaGolf's needs.

A central part of the project has been the product configurator, which is crucial for NordicaGolf's sale of custom fit products. With the configurator, customers can easily combine clubheads, shafts, and grips to create customized golf clubs. Previously, the configuration of golf clubs was a manually demanding process, where each combination of clubhead, shaft, and grip needed to be built individually. The new configurator revolutionizes this by offering instant loading of all possible components, providing users with a smooth and fast experience. Thanks to a connection to the inventory system, the configurator can also handle a significantly larger number of components and product combinations, something that was not possible with the previous solution.

“The new configurator handles thousands of shafts without compromising performance. It is a huge technical improvement, allowing for the construction of large configurations that the previous site could not handle.” says Peter Vilhelmsson, CEO and co-founder of NordicaGolf.

With Fusion Storefront as the frontend and the configurator as the heart of the solution, NordicaGolf's new e‑commerce stands strong as a modern and scalable platform that meets customers' needs.

Interaction between base product and options

The site underwent an extensive visual upgrade with improvements in both design and UX, particularly evident on the product pages. Products with a product configurator became a central part of the work, as these views required a careful balance between presenting the base product and its many options without overwhelming the user. Light background colors were introduced to provide clearer contrasts, and the product configurator was restructured to guide the customer through the purchase journey in a more intuitive way.

In addition, a restructured category menu was introduced, making it easier to get an overview of the range. An update of the typography for headings gave the site a more modern look, and the layout was adapted to better utilize screen width on larger screens. Together, these changes created a more cohesive and user-friendly design that enhances the customer's experience.

Improved performance and strong conversions

Due to a tight deadline, when NordicaGolf's agreement with Magento Cloud was about to be terminated, there was intensive work before the site was launched in March 2024. Despite this, the results after the launch have been impressive. Performance has improved significantly and the conversion rate has increased in several markets. In Sweden and Norway, where golf interest is high, sales increased by 62% and 43%, and the conversion rate rose by 7% and 11% respectively.

Peter Vilhelmsson highlights the collaboration with Webbhuset as one of the key factors behind the successes. Despite the intensive work process, he describes the communication and problem-solving as smooth and effective.

Next steps for NordicaGolf

With a strong foundation in place, NordicaGolf plans to continue optimizing its configurator and further improve user experience. This includes adding filtering options and more informative content to help customers make well-informed choices. In the longer term, the company sees opportunities to explore even more flexible solutions and continue developing e‑commerce that meets their future needs.

With Webbhuset's help, NordicaGolf has not only solved its previous performance challenges but has also built e‑commerce that reflects the company's innovative and customer-focused brand. The results speak for themselves, and the company is now ready to continue its expansion and strengthen its position as a leader in custom-fit golf equipment.
